Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. After her father's departure from the family, she was brought up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. When she was a girl, Ford was battling anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused through word-related associations. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few days, she concluded that the school was not right for her. Ford later applied for a place for the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford didn't finish her studies in 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her first television appearance on the show Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. The regular theatre work she performed has led to her joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate began to gain attention due to her stand-up comedy in 1996.
